STARRY NIGHT - STYLED SHOOT // 30.03.2023

Writer's picture: Blommekind KunsBlommekind Kuns

GOLDEN ROMANCE WITH A MOODY TWIST - Is what I had in mind when I started planning this shoot. I've had this theme in mind for quite some time before I decided to make it happen. This was my first styled shoot that I have done from concept all the way to coordination and execution. I think, even though this shoot was far from perfect, it will always have a special place in my heart. It was also a good place to learn important lessons that I will be able to apply to the next one. This will be a thorough look at this 'out of the ordinary' styled shoot, where nothing was mainstream or "basic". Dark and moody themes can be magical if you add a little bit of sparkle.

Please join me for an in depth read on every part of the shoot & the amazing vendors who made it all possible.

Let's talk about... THE VENUE:

(Rolling Waters Country Estate)

This spectacular venue, where craftsmanship meets creative designs and decorative elements is situated at Tierpoort in Pretoria East. The natural landscape surrounding the venue offers beautiful opportunities where precious memories can be captured forever. Rolling Waters Country Estate is the perfect combination between Modern, Classic and Rustic. My jaw dropped when we first walked into the venue and I still think of how beautiful it is to this day.

THE DÉCOR:

(by Daring Décor and Events) When Calista Vermaak from Daring Décor and Events & me started discussing the décor for this shoot we decided on lots of gold tones with black, navy & shades of purple. Calista really came through with the décor for this Celestial celebration of love.

THE STATIONERY AND FLOWERS:

(by Blommekind Kuns & Ontwerp)

Let's start with the Invitations: I wa8nted to do something reflective & elegant, thus, I landed on an engraved acrylic invitation with a sparkly gunmetal half sleeve "envelope" sealed with a gold string, gold wax seal and flowers.

I designed a custom logo for this shoot with a leafy moon design that I incorporated on the stationery throughout the rest of the designs.

Welcome... I wanted something round, reflective & enchanting for the welcome sign. I custom cut a round mirror, printed a water colour crescent moon on matt vinyl, cut out white matt vinyl wording & carefully placed it onto the mirror. Mirrors are definitely one of my favorite welcome sign options and am sure yo can see why. *Mirror and easel are available for hire from Blommekind Kuns*

For the menu's I wanted to try something different, I decided on a round navy menu design with a vellum overlay & gold foiling.

I also incorporated the Vellum & gold foiling from the menu's into the name placements finishing it off with a purple hand frayed satin ribbon to repeat the purple tones of the flower onto the rest of the table. Ps. how cute are these navy crescent moon side plates I thrifted for this styled shoot? *We have 8x navy crescent moon side plates available for hire*

My personal favorite from this shoot... The Table Numbers! Yes you guessed it, I was taking inspiration from 'moon rocks' for the table numbers. I carefully broke a stone slab into table number sized pieces & added a black acrylic laser cut number onto it. I absolutely loved how this came out.

This was my first time doing flowers and oh how I loved every moment, from going to the flower market to pick them out, having beautifully colored flowers in my home the day's leading up to the shoot & carefully arranging them on the day. I've always loved flowers & working with them (hence my business name), so this was an absolute treat. I did my best to pick out flowers that represent the theme of this shoot, navy, shades of purple & a little bit of greenery, but I will not lie and say that I did not get overwhelmed & did not go a little overboard with the amount of flowers I got :)

THE CAKE:

(by LoliRock Cakes)

The beautiful galaxy themed three tiered cake & mini geometric heart cakes were meticulously made by the talented LoliRock Cakes. *Cake topper designed & made by Blommekind Kuns*

THE GARMENTS:

(by CE Bespoke design, Smart Guy & Generational Goth)

CE Bespoke design crafted this stunning, out of the traditional norm, full sequin dress specially for this styled shoot. And Oh my goodness did our model, Elani Pienaar, not just look breathtaking in this golden dress. The dress came with a detachable tulle train that added that dramatic flair we all secretly want. Elani's sweetheart, Anrich, also joined us on the shoot and was dressed by Smart Guy in this handsome navy suit. The chemistry and love between these two are so tangible in these photo's!

The shoot turned out to be rainy, windy, cold and dark (load shedding was an hour early) but luckily Shae from Generational Goth hand painted this black denim jacket especially for this shoot and not only is it gorgeous, but it really came in handy with the unexpected cold weather.

THE ACCESORIES:

(by Domina Charlidon & Silver Bee Floral Design ) The hand crafted jewelry created by Chanique from Domina Charlidon was the perfect touch to complete the bridal look. These items included the golden brass & onyx ring, earing and necklace set, hair vine & pearl pins. To complement the Navy suit a brass ring paired with a gold and black original CAT watch was also provided by Domina Charlidon.

To complement the 'out of the ordinary' theme we created, Candice from Silver Bee Floral Designs Created a gorgeous celestial dried flower head piece and half moon fan. The colours and elegance of these two items embodied the theme of the shoot perfectly.

THE LOOK:

(by Beau Su Belle & Blissful Bellas) Hair and makeup is such an integral part of your wedding day, and this shoot was no different. Suhané from Beau Su Belle with her effortless application and brush strokes did a flawless job with Elani's make-p and Nicole from Blissful Bellas who accompanied her in the bridal suite did magic with Elani's hair, pulling off the perfect loose braided look for that modern edgy touch.

THE PHOTOGRAPHY:

(by Nadia Visagie Photography) Last but not least Nadia from Nadia Visagie Photography made it all come to life with her professional photography & gorgeous editing style. I love the golden glow of the photo's pared with the perfect touch of elegance and whimsical authenticity.
